Sriracha

posted in Food |

The NY Times has a write up about Sriracha. I had no idea it wasn’t actually Asian, although in retrospect its not surprising that its another American invention based on a blend of other cultures. In the end I don’t care where it comes from, I’m a fan…

This particular brand is American, but Siracha sauce actually originated form a small town (Sriracha) in Thailand.

According to the mighy orcale (Kasma - http://www.thaifoodandcooking.com) - the rooster brand american knock-off has potassium sorbate, sodium bisulfite and xanthum gum. Bleugh. There are better Thai versions without these unnecessary preservatives.
